The item pictured is the actual pin offered for sale.  It is an “Artist Proof” which means the actual LE size is unknown, while the pin distributed was in fact an edition size of 300.  This makes this pin more rare and sought after than the others.
An Artist Proof (AP) pin is used during the manufacturing of the pin to verify quality. Once the manufacturing is complete the company will send the AP pins to Disney. The number of AP Pins depends on how many pins were created. From there Disney will send a couple AP Pins to their archives. The rest will be saved or destroyed. The ones that are saved are NEVER sold in the parks. They are used for various special purposes, such as auctions for special events or charities, or to be awarded as a prize.
Because they are used to verify quality, other than an "AP" that is stamped on the back of the pin they are identical to the ones that were actually sold.
