    Eden Shake, is a traditional Japanese furikake seasoning which both enhances the flavor of foods as well as providing nutritional benefits. A Japanese condiment used to sprinkle over grains, noodles, baked potatoes, cooked vegetables, popcorn, and more. A ready-to-use table condiment of roasted tan and black sesame seed, green nori flakes, and dried pickled red shiso (beefsteak) leaves. Rich in minerals and amino acids, Furikake is a time-tested favorite and an easy way to enjoy the health benefits of sesame, nori, and shiso. Very low in sodium with only 20mg per serving. Named furikake, from the words furi kakeru which in Japanese means “to sprinkle over”, the condiment was developed in Japan during the Taisho period to sprinkle over rice in order to help combat calcium deficits and malnutrition that was pervasive in Japan at the time. Beginning during World War I, furikake was made widely available as it was being dispensed to the Japanese army to aid in nutrition. In the traditional making of Eden Shake, red shiso leaves are pickled in umeboshi plum vinegar and sea salt before being dried, chopped, and ground into a powder. Specific green nori flakes from the sea vegetables Enteromorpha and Monostroma species are utilized in Eden Shake, due to their very mild flavor and excellent health benefits. Tan and black sesame seeds are roasted prior to being combined with the nori and shiso.
