    ITEM:
A great example of vintage Van Briggle American Art Pottery. This is the Lorelei Vase in their signature Ming Blue color that dates from the 1930s to 1940s.
Artus Van Briggle's inspiration for the original vase was from German folk legend of Lorelei, the siren of the Rhine River.  According to this legend, the Lorelei was a beautiful maiden who threw herself in the Rhine River to end her despair over a faithless lover.  As she drown, a transformation took place. She became a siren who lured fishermen to destruction as she sang and combed her hair, on the rock from which she originally jumped.
Measures 11 1/2" tall and 15" around the girth with a tape measure
The Van Briggle Pottery Company was one of America’s most important and longest lasting art potteries, quintessentially associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. The "Lorelei Vase" was Van Briggle’s first figural vase form, the design of which he originally created while working at the Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Guaranteed to be 100% vintage and original from Grapefruit Moon Gallery.
