Description
This is a grouping of two South African badges. The bright plated Pretoria Highlanders badge appears to be too heavy (and too large) as a glengarry or balmoral badge, and may be from a baldric-- as it has two heavy duty screws in the back. It looks to be fairly modern. The Natal and Orange Free State 2nd S African Infantry badge is white metal and could date back to WWI-- but may very well be later.I acquired these badges back in the late 1980s from a colleague at the former Marine Corps History and Museums Division. He specialized in Russian decorations and medals, and we made a "swap" for these badges.
We are seriously "downsizing" our collections due to medical issues, and we are looking for good homes for these items, some of which we have studied or used, but always treasured, for more than fifty years. We are gratified to find that many of these items that we acquired for study, research, or decor are finding good homes with wonderful collectors. Keep watching this site for Scottish, Irish, British, German, and American military items from 1861-1919, as well as art nouveau items. Although we have been selling our treasures to collectors all over the globe, physically going to our local U.S. Post Office, and standing in line for customs requirements, has become too difficult-- due to the problems currently being experienced by the USPS. As a result, we have, very, very reluctantly, decided to suspend international sales (anywhere outside of the USA) until further notice. This is sad, as we have made so many friends throughout the world over the past few years though our "downsizing" program.
