John Paul II is remembered on this HARD-TO-FIND, value-priced silver medal, struck by the Warsaw Mint in Poland!
No other pope in history visited more countries during his papacy than John Paul II, over 125 in all! He was a true pilgrim of peace, traveling the globe to spread the message of the gospels and preaching harmony and nonviolence toward one's fellow human. This beautiful silver medal with a very low mintage remembers John Paul's life work on the obverse and as the Polish pope on the reverse.
    Obverse
John Paul II stands clothed in the vestments of the papacy. He holds the crosier and crucifex of his office with his arms open in a greeting of peace and welcome. Behind him is the partial outline of his native land, Poland. Above him fly doves, symbolizing peace. The legend in Polish, JAN PAWEL II - PIELGRZYM POKOJU translates as "John Paul II - Pilgrim of Peace".
    Reverse
In the center, John Paul II's papal coat of arms, which include the keys of St. Peter. Below is his signature in Latin, JOANNES PAULUS II. The dates of his birth (1920), election to the papacy (1978) and death (2005) are remembered. The legend at the top, PAPIEZ POLAK, translates as "The Polish Pope".
    Packaging
The silver medal is encapsulated inside a burgundy leatherette, clamshell-style presentation case, lined with black velvet.
