    Van Briggle Pottery
    Freestanding "Lady Of The Lake" Figure 10" Mulberry
    Here is a beautiful - and VERY unusual - figure by the Van Briggle Pottery, Colorado Springs, CO: a deco style semi-nude woman kneeling on a rock and leaning over the edge. This figure is known as "The Lady of the Lake" and is usually found in one piece with a shallow bowl forming the "lake." I have not been able to find another free-standing Lady (except a similar experimental piece sold by a NC auctioneer in 2010).
    This Lady is matte glazed in Mulberry; she measures 10" high and 6" x 6" at the base. There is the incised AA / Van Briggle / Colo. Spgs. mark on the bottom. There are no chips or cracks on this exciting piece; there is a slight scratch in the glaze on the right side of the rock - it is so shallow that I can see it but cannot feel it (please see last photo
