    Description

World War Special War Service Badge
    Coventry Ordnance Works Ltd
    Brass badge 29 mm diameter.
A Howitzer 4.5" field gun designed and produced by the works to the centre.
    To the border:
    "COVENTRY ORDNANCE WORKS Ltd
    SPECIAL WAR SERVICES"
The reverse with crescent lapel fitting.
The Coventry Ordnance Ltd was a joint venture between John Brown, Cammel Laird and Fairfield Shipbuilders.
It was created in 1905 and during World War 1 it produced heavy artillery including the QF4.5 Howitzer which equipped 25% of the British field artillery.
Please note that the original Crescent buttonhole fastener had fallen off and a standard pin was soldered to it to make it wearable. Now that is history! Please judge condition based on pictures provided or feel free to ask questions. Thank you!
