Stangl Pottery Chicory Chop Plate or Platter, 14.25" Diameter, Pattern Number 3809
Designed by Kay Hackett and manufactured by Stangl Pottery located in Trenton, New Jersey, the Chicory dinnerware pattern was first introduced in 1949 and was produced by Stangl for two years using brushed white engobe on the red-colored clay body.  The Chicory pattern was discontinued in 1951. The Chicory pattern was reintroduced in 1960 using sprayed white engobe.  The chop plate I have listed has the sprayed white engobe.  The chop plate is hand decorated with the Chicory pattern of blue flowers, green leaves, and brown stems. The stems and leaves are carved into the plate. The base of the chop plate is marked with the Stangl Pottery Trenton N.J. and Chicory underglaze stamp mark (see Photo 12).
The chop plate measures approximtely 14.25 inches in diameter and 1 and 1/8 inches in height.  Weight of the chop plate is approximately 3.84 pounds.
Please see all 12 photographs as they are part of the description. The bright white areas and the shadows in the photos are from light reflections off of the glaze when the photographs were taken. The chop plate is in excellent condition and likely was never used as the condition is spectacular. There are no chips, breaks, repairs, utensil marks, staining. or crazing. The glaze is bright and shiny, and the chop plate displays very well as you can tell from the photographs.
