    Description

For auction is a lovely piece of art pottery made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The item is a bud vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 1/2" tall and is 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest point. The vase is made in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as "Mountain Craig Brown".
The vase has a unique high bulbous shoulder shape with a small hole in the top to
    accommodate
no more than a handful of flowers. It is decorated with an embossed stylize leaf or stem type panel and trefoil stylized flower. The raised leaf panel starts as a stem at the bottom and forms a Y shape around each flower and extends all the way to the top lip with the exterior edges meeting the next stem or leaf at the top. This pattern is repeated 3 times around the vase. It has a wonderful medium brown background glaze with the embossed area having a green glaze over it. This glaze was known as the Mountain Craig Brown glaze. One flower has very little of this green.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The inside of the vase shows minimal wear and it appears that this vase was taken care of during its use. This piece is signed on the bottom with the impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo mark along with "Van Briggle" in large freehand letters with "Colo. Spgs" underneath it. This Mountain Craig Brown glaze was lost in the flood of 1935 and no more of Van Briggle pieces were made in that glaze
    after that flood.
This is a nice not so commonly found form and glaze in excellent condition. I believe this to be shape number "335" in the Van Briggle catalog. I have attached a few pictures from a book showing 1 picture advertisement in black and white. The book has only 1 reference to this shape and it appears to be the same. Those of you who collect Arts and Crafts design pottery will surely welcome this addition into your collection. I am sure it will look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. This piece was made circa 1928-1935 as there is no USA mark on the bottom and that mark was used in the early 20's.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July of this year 2020.
I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments
. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the
    merchandise
    unless it is paid for.
    They are also n
ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.5% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.5%. This is an increase of 8.6% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.5% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
