    Description

Zion Israel Jewish Judaic Hebrew WW I era British issued pin MEGA RARE
This is an ORIGINAL VINTAGE about 1 x 3/4 inch in size, stiff paper “flag” pin issued in Great Britain during World War I, probably to gather aid for Jews living in or moving to Palestine. Paper pins of this type were popular in Britain during WW I but relatively few have been preserved.  One side reads “ZION” within a Magen David, the opposite side has the same image with a rampant lion within the star.
This piece sells for about on collector websites.
Excellent condition for such a fragile and RARE item.
Intact pin, paper in very fine condition.
I found this attractive piece 15 years ago and have never seen another for sale.  APPEARS TO BE EXTREMELY RARE, Just one is available.
WW I charity "flag day" fundraising pin badges were sold in Great Britain during the Great War to raise money for a variety of causes; such as supporting the troops, the war effort, wounded soldiers, widows, and providing relief for persecuted peoples.
For each cause, typically, a paper “flag” attached to a pin was sold for a penny.
The World War One Flag Day movement was initiated on September 5, 1914, by one Mrs. Morrison, and carried forward with the help of the Boys’ Brigade and Boy Scouts, who would carry trays of pins and tin cans for collecting the donations.
Dozens of causes were supported in this fashion with nominal donations from members of the public.
