    Description

VTG Van Briggle Vase Pottery Poppies & Pods Blue Turquoise #218 1920's/1930's
This is an exquisite vintage Van Briggle vase with the classic blue/green/turquoise matte glaze. The markings on the underside and rougher sandy clay bottom indicates it was produced during the late 1920's/early 1930's. This coincides with the estate owner's provenance.
    The simplicity of the
stylized "Poppies and Pods" is an elegant design starting in 1903 by Artus Van Briggle. This form began as shape #2, and was redesigned and known as shape #218. This piece has a blue wash over the blossoms to accentuate the design and provide greater depth.
This organic design reflects not only the classic Van Briggle style but works well with a variety of other design aesthetics from Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, to Mid-Century Modern or BoHo Chic.
Approx. 8-1/4 inches tall, 2-3/4 across the top, 4 inches across the shoulder, and 2-1/2 inches at the base.
Condition in my opinion is outstanding -- no chips, cracks, or mars -- beautiful pre-owned vintage condition. Some slight crazing upon close inspection -- IMO this is to be expected with the age, this type of glaze, and pottery technique. It is an exquisite piece and one very tempting to keep for my own arts & crafts home.   :)  Sold as is.
This will be packed extremely carefully for the journey ahead.  USPS Priority will be my preferred method of shipping as it provides the buyer fast shipping and insurance included up to 0. I am also recommending added insurance depending on the final price paid which will be added to the invoice.
Van Briggle Art Pottery was at the time of its demise the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States, having been established in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. Artus had a significant impact on the Art Nouveau movement in the United States, and his pottery is foundational to American Art Pottery. A unique characteristic is the matte blue glaze based on an ancient Chinese process that had long been lost to history.
From the estate of a man with Scandinavian heritage that traveled extensively throughout Europe, North America, the Pacific Islands, and Asia. He had a keen eye for great craftsmanship, artistry, and mid-century modern design aesthetic. This piece was passed down in the family.
